2 FRACTURED ELBOWS --- DON'T RECOMMEND!!

On October 13, while watching my granddaughter march in her last high school parade, I turned to follow the band back to their bus when a raised seam in the sidewalk tripped me.  OUCH!!  OUCH!!  I pulled my right fist to the center of my chest and stiff-armed the sidewalk with my left hand.  P-A-I-N!!! like I've never felt before, even with the 2 babies I had.  People started asking me if I was okay but I couldn't answer with the wind knocked out of me!!!  I finally moved around enough to sit up, then they wanted to pull me up by my fractured arms!!!  Finally made it to my feet and walked away so those good-intended people would stop asking questions and pulling on my arms. For 6 weeks I haven't done anything other than necessities, most of those lacking in quality.

Want to know what its like, don't lift anything over 5 lbs and be absolutely sure to not twist a cap off of even the toothpaste.

Domestic Violence in KC

Kassandra Perkins and Jovan Belcher deaths domestic violence deaths are in the fastest growing age group in domestic violence (high school through early twenties).  Wonder if friends and family notices these Red Flags --   "Does not honor boundaries."  --  "Is excessively jealous and accuses partner of having affairs."  --  "Wants to know where partner is all of the time, texting, calling, emailing over and over."  The real loser is Zoey, their 3-month old daughter.

How do you take car keys away from a loved one?

Yes, this is my delimma today.  I feel that no matter how or what I say to my sister, it will be the wrong thing.  I am an author and thought I am good with words, but I can't find ANY words to say that won't be painful for both of us.  God, help me to figure this out.

After all, I am basically taking away her independence just like Alzheimers is stealing pieces of her personality away from her.  No way for an even trade here.

KC Woman Now A Domestic Violence Statistic

Essence Willoughby
Essence Willoubhy

A precocious 3-year-old boy helped find his mother’s body Tuesday in a creek at the bottom of a ravine in Kansas City after he told police he witnessed her death. The young mother of two had been missing since Sunday morning. The boy recounted crying and seeing a man hit his mother then put her in water after they had attended church.  Her family said Essense had been in an abusive relationship for 5 years and was not living with the abuser at the time of her death.

Wonder if she had an order of protection?  Had she been to any of the domestic violence shelters in Kansas City?  Did her family know what to do to help her?  They must have because they knew she was being abused.  So many questions, so few answers.

Losing My Sister to Alzheimers

HORRENDOUS!!!!!

This powerful word does not even begin to describe the horrors of this terrible, awful disease!!  My English professor friend would say I am overusing the exclamation point but this the only way I vent my anger at this disease.  It is stealing my younger sister by sucking her personality away in small bits and pieces.  She almost never sings any of our favorite songs any more.  I see her beautiful, friendly smile less often and try to sear each and every one into my memory.  Speaking of my memory, is it going to disappear like hers?  Such a scary thought I don't let myself think of it very often or very much.  Must go get ready to drive the 300 miles to go to the doctor with her and continue plans of moving her to assisted living in Kansas City soon as possible.  Doctors say it isn't safe for her to live alone.

Bullet Words versus Physical Bullets

Having never been shot with a bullet from a gun, I cannot say with 100% assurance that bullet words shot from someones mouth causes more or less pain. But having experienced bullet words of name calling and cursing being screamed at me, I know first-hand the damage that word bullets caused me.

As the "you are stupid" bullet hit me, it punctured the tissue of my emotions, crushing and pushing aside any and all good words ever said to me. Like physical bullets, it created a cavity 30 times wider than the path it takes through me. As the cavity closes behind the wound, I ignored the shock waves it left behind in me. The "#&@%#" curse word bullets stay inside my emotions transferring all of its kinetic energy ensuring maximum damage is done to my emotions. Some of those bullets shouted and yelled right in my face felt as if they were jacketed or hollow-point bullets fragmenting and dividing their destructive power between my feelings and into my whole body.

Although it has been almost 20 years since these and other bullets were shot at me daily, my body is still feeling the scars and adhesions left in my being as I write this blog.   Remember: Once bullet words have been shot from a person's mouth, they are deadly to the target's emotions and cannot be drawn back any more than a physical bullet shot from a gun.     Susan's website

"Why doesn't she just leave?"  This is a question often asked of women living in domestic violence situations.  This quote says just one of reasons why women docan't "just leave."  She says it so much better than I can.

"Not having a good day, because of my living situation, I lost my three cats today, the woman who was taking care of them took them to the SPCA and never gave me a chance to come up with an alternative for them. My heart is severely broken. I hate my life and I cannot handle any more hurt and pain."  Karen

She is homeless because she did leave.   And is about to lose what few things she owns because of storage unit payments being so far behind.

What do I mean by full cicle?

As a teenager, I didn't imagine I would someday say "I am a survivor of domestic violence."  I planned to meet a wonderful man (I believed I did), marry him (was good for about 8 to 10 years), have children (2 sons),  and live happily ever after.  I can't pinpoint a specific time that we stepped into the circle of domestic violence because it was insidiously slow and disguised itself as every other type of problems.  We circled in chaos for a total of 23 years when we separated and our divorce was finalized the week of our 25th anniversary.  Journaling, counseling and a domestic violence support group helped me to step out of the full circle of domestic violence into becoming a survivor.
